One of the greatest British discoveries of the noughties is back three years after its grandiose and globally successful debut. “21” is the name of the second album, it was created in Malibu, California, in the studio of the legendary Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and in London by Paul Epworth (Plan B, Bloc Party). Among other things, Adele mentions Wanda Jackson, Andrew Bird, Mary J. Blige, Mos Def, Elbow and Kanye West as key influences on “21”. The London songwriter and singer released her debut 19 in 2008, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, went double platinum and sold more than two million copies worldwide. The first single “Chasing Pavements” was also a huge hit, in 2009 Adele received two Grammys: “Best New Artist” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance”. With “21” Adele duly follows up. The first single, “Rolling In The Deep”, was written and produced by Adele and Paul Epworth. A “dark bluesy gospel disco tune” (Adele), which is ideal for the radio.
