Her name obliges her and her music fulfills all requirements: Bebel Gilberto is not only the daughter of bossa nova founder Joao Gilberto and singer Miúcha, but has also been a star herself since the release of her debut “Tanto Tempo”. Recorded in Sao Paulo, “Tanto Tempo” became one of the most successful Brazilian albums of all time. With the help of some Brazil veterans like the pianist and arranger Joao Donato and the producer Suba, but also some electro acts like Smoke City, Thievery Corporation and Amon Tobin, a soulful mix of traditional bossa nova, gentle samba and modern electro and lounge was created -Sounds. In addition to seven original compositions, which are now classics themselves, “Tanto Tempo” offers interpretations of songs by Chico Buarque, Marcos Valle, Vinicius de Moraes/Baden Powell and Gilberto Gil/Joao Donato. Bossa nova never sounded so familiar and new at the same time.
